(staying at the tropicana, which is a junk hotel and there is no internet so i am leeching where i can for these updates)

i actually dont like vegas at all and would never take a vacation here if it wasnt for the workshop and wppi. im not a big fan of these fake, tacky sights, and the smoke filled casinos.

some pics of the flight! I didn’t checkin early enough to get my favorite seat but im at least thankful that i got a window seat! more updates as the days come…and if i can find internet in this lousy place.

Spain is creeping up on me! | Scott Robert Workshop

It’s hard to believe that I posted about this pretty much a year ago and a year has flown by.

I remember that day when I called up Scott to find out a bit more about the trip.I was kind of nervous to be talking to a $10K photographer when at that time wedding photography was just a hopeful, intangible, mere thought in the back of my head but I was excited though. Excited not only at the fact that I would get a chance to visit a foreign country while learning photography from one of the best, but that I knew that this trip would be the start to my dreams…well the start of my dreams actually started this past summer so a bit early in my schedule hahah.

Who would have known that since that phone call a year ago I would have already gone to Scott’s San Francisco/Oakland and New York workshops already! I still haven’t even processed all I learned.

This time around I will be traveling alone for the most part of the trip (kind of scary just thinking about it). My first stop is London for two days alone and then 3 days with my friend who will take me around the other parts of the country. Then a 24 hour stay in Paris. I must work fast in Paris as I don’t have much time to see the sights. After that I train it down to Spain! I can’t wait to spend a night on board a train and then ride the Spanish AVE, their high speed train!Â¬â€

I must be vigilant and watch out for pickpockets and robbers! At the same time try to not get lost hahah.

But I’ll be sure to grab many pictures and post as much as I can! And as a note there may be a lull in posts until then. =)

Scott Robert New York Workshop – Day 3

Finally done with the majority of my New York pics. I probably went portrait crazy that third day in New York. But practice makes perfect so that’s all that matters. I think I was getting the hang of all the technicalities of taking a portrait but that doesn’t mean I’m anywhere near satisfied or perfect yet. I mean, photographers take years to perfect the most basic portrait!

Man, if Scott‘s 3 day workshops were this great then I wonder what a 4 day workshop would be like. If you guys still want to support me for my Spain trip, that would be awesome too! =)

In either case, this NYC workshop was so good. Steve has an awesome slide show done!

Scott Robert New York Workshop – Day 2

Practice does make better. By the second day I knew what I had to know and application was the only thing on my mind. Scott‘s a great teacher if I haven’t mentioned that yet. There’s no holds barred with him as he just unleashes everything he knows and everything you’ll need to know to make some great images. It’s up to you to put it into practice.

Sometimes during the day I even forgot I should be shooting and practicing as New York is such a beautiful city with so much going around and so many places to explore!

But before the pics, I was checking out Christina‘s site and really love that song she had on her site! So if you want, play it while viewing these pics. Makes me wish I had a convertible car and just cruise with this on. It’s so chill

Sherry getting dolled up. All the models prepped every morning at Istana Beauty Salon in Flushing, NY just a couple blocks from our hotel. The salon was very accommodating to us 20 some photographers!

May (Miss Lovebird on the Weddingbee) looking stunning! She was our mock bride for the week, along with her fiance, Yili, the mock groom. I didn’t get to shoot them as much as I would have liked. Second shot was setup by Scott. He always get’s the best shots as he acts so quick! I have to be as fast as him someday!! But of course his shot is eons better.

I find that “grunge” is very popular in graphic design these days. I see man photographers incorporating it into their images but what inspired me was Sean Kingston’s There’s Nothin’ video. So I had to try it myself. Check out Liz’s picture of us posing here too hahaha. The girl on the right is Joyce!

What’s a glam shoot without some super fashionable stuff in the model’s hair and blazing red lipstick!

If there is yet another thing I want to practice in photography it is to start shooting through things in my environment. Gosh I love red. It’s my favorite color.

The underground subway is like a maze!

Rockefeller Center! And second picture is at Times Square! And to those who have seen Scott’s pictures and feel sorry for the dress, this was actually a Trash the Dress session.

Fisheye!!! There were insane amounts of people just watching us in Time Square! Check my Daily Life facebook album for some snapshots. And no, the blur isn’t photoshopped!!! Fisheye lenses are so fun but I wouldn’t use it too much.

Scott Robert New York Workshop – Day 1

This workshop was a real treat because not only was it held in sweet sweet New York (my first time there) but Scott went through some of his tips on posing. Posing is indeed the hardest thing to do for any photographer.

This time around (since I already have some knowledge of lighting from the SF workshop), I really wanted to focus on making some good close-up portraits/head shots with everything I learned previously about lighting and now about posing. I stuck with one type of portraiture (the 2/3rds view) and just tried to perfect it through the week. Sure I failed at times but gradually I was able to understand what went wrong and continue picking myself up. I just wished I had more time! One day I’ll get there. One day. I’m always up for critique and growth…anything to try to get better.

Not too much of a close up portrait but I just like her emotion.

We shot through the night too! I’m glad I got a ST-E2 just in time for the trip! It’s probably the handiest accessory I’ve bought lately.
